It's confirmed, Wedson Nyirenda has been discussed in the offices of the Football Association of Zambia.
The Baroka FC coach has done enough to prove his quality in Africa’s top league. Nyirenda’s first season is Mzansi saw the 52-year-old keep Baroka in the league and of course won the club’s first ever trophy with the 2018 Telkom Knockout. Nyirenda’s other accolade was a league title in Mozambique with Ferroviario da Beira in 2016
Nyirenda’s confirmation of FAZ’s approach has left him in a dilemma.
"I don't know what is going to happen. I cannot comment much on that," he told The Sowetan.
"It's a very difficult situation. Zambia is my home and I have a contract to fulfill with Baroka. I cannot ditch them just like that,” added the former Zesco and Zanaco coach.
The Chipolopolo are yet to appoint a new man since the departure of Belgian Sven Vandenbroeck.
"There are a lot of things that we have to put into perspective before making any decision," he added.
Zambia’s bench is currently headed by Green Eagles coach Aggrey Chiyangi. Nyirenda concluded the chat by highlighting his gratitude for his current employers in Polokwane.
"National matters are very sensitive. People will think you're a sellout but you have to respect the people here. They are taking care of me and respect me. This club gave me a chance to come coach in the PSL and I am grateful for that,” Nyirenda concluded.
Baroka, known as Bakgaga, currently sit 12th in the PSL after two wins in eight. The side will next begin their TKO defence this weekend. They take on SuperSport United on Saturday at 15:00.
