Striker Alexis Sanchez will not return to Manchester United from his loan deal at Inter Milan despite suffering an injury that might rule him out for a longer period.
Sanchez could be out of action until the New Year if he requires surgery, but United sources have confirmed there is no release clause in the deal that saw him move to Italy for the rest of the season.
The 30-year-old winger has only made just four appearances for Inter totaling 129 minutes since joining Inter in the summer from United and he is expected to fly to Barcelona to be assessed by Dr Ramon Cugat who will decide if the player needs an operation.
Extent of Injury
Inter confirmed the extent of the injury in a statement, saying: “Alexis Sanchez underwent medical tests earlier this morning at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano. Results revealed a joint dislocation in his left ankle which has caused damage to the peroneus longus tendon.
“The player will meet for further consultations with Professor Ramon Cugat in Barcelona on Wednesday, where they will seek to reach a decision on whether surgical intervention is necessary.'
Sanchez who is due to return to Old Trafford in June with two years remaining on his contract has half of his salary at Inter being paid by his parent club with the other chunk being remitted by Inter.
