Benni McCarthy has admitted Kaizer Chiefs are the best team in Mzansi right now - but losing twice to Amakhosi is not the idea.
August’s 2-1 loss to Chiefs in Cape Town has been a main talking point as the two sides build-up for this weekend’s Telkom Knockout last 16 game.
City’s coach McCarthy believes that the match is above all an exciting spectacle to produce an afternoon of top entertainment.
“I think it’s a big occasion for everybody – me included, of course. The form they are in at this moment in time… and they are a team to beat,” McCarthy told Soccer Laduma.
“But, I think, we take positive from the last game we played against them even though the scoreline wasn’t favouring us.”
The former Orlando Pirates striker and last season’s MTN8 champion further believes that City performed well enough at Newlands.
“But I think the way we applied ourselves in that game we’ve got nothing to fear. It’s great for the fans to come out because it will be two teams that will be having a go at each other. I think our players… we’ve got a lot to make right.”
“So, I think the game comes also at a good time to test ourselves that we’re always special. Let’s hope we can go out there and put up a performance that people will appreciate, not only the good football that we play, but this time I think we don’t want to come out second best,” McCarthy concluded.
Meanwhile, City have only claimed one win in five games against Amakhosi.
