Chelsea scout Piet De Visser has revealed how the club convinced youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi to sign a new deal.
De Visser has revealed that former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri was forced to play Hudson-Odoi in a bid to convince the player to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge. As a result, the England international ended up signing a new five-year contract with the Blues.
"I told Chelsea: never lose Hudson-Odoi. He will be the new Hazard. But Marina (Granovskaia) said he didn't want to sign," the club's scout told De Volkskrant:
"And you know why not? Because Sarri didn’t play him. Then Sarri was instructed to deploy him, and he was their best player. And he signed for four years."
The 18-year-old was linked with a move to Bayern Munich and even came close to leaving Chelsea during the January transfer window but the west London club rejected a £35m bid from the Bundesliga giants. He had also handed in a transfer request, but Chelsea refused to let him leave, with manager Frank Lampard assuring the youngster about his future.
