England striker Wayne Rooney has reportedly started training with Derby County as he prepares to join the Championship side in January.
Rooney signed a pre-contract with the Phillip Cocu side two months ago and will be at the club for 18-month as he tries to get integrated into the coaching world.
English tabloids report that the former Manchester United and Everton man is stepping up his fitness for his scheduled debut for the club as player-coach in the New Year.
Rooney arrived at the club’s Moor Farm training base on Tuesday after ending his stint with America Major League Soccer side DC United where he featured in 52 games and scored 25 goals for the club.
In joining Derby, the striker will be the highest-paid player in the Championship after agreeing a £100,000 a week deal with the Rams.
The deal has attracted controversy as it is funded in part by a record sponsorship deal with betting company 32Red.
