Knox Mutizwa scored a brace as Golden Arrows defeated Mamelodi Sundowns 3-2 in today’s Absa Premiership game in Durban.
Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane made two key changes in the centre. Andile Jali and Rivaldo Coetzee started in central midfield ahead of the likes of Hlompho Kekana and Tiyani Mabunda.
Arrows, undefeated in four games, made it five against the champions. In a heavily wet Sugar Ray Xulu pitch, Sundowns took the lead through Thapelo Morena after being played in by Tebogo Langerman.
The second stanza would belong to Abafana Bes’thende. Steve Komphela's men applied relentless pressure until the equalizer came just after 60 minutes. Denis Onyango fumbled a Denis Phiri shot into the net for 1-1.
It was goal number two as Mutizwa made it 2-1 on 77 minutes with a grass-cutting shot into the bottom corner - thanks to a Devine Lunga cross.
Motjeka Madisha then brought down Seth Parusnath to give Arrows a penalty on 79 minutes. Mutizwa stepped up to send Onyango the wrong way for 3-1.
Jali was teed-up by a Mosa Lebusa back-heel to hit low and past Junior Sibande for 3-2 with three minutes to play. Lyle Lakay nearly hit the equalizer on 90 minutes when Trevor Mathiane’s flying tackle deflected his shot over the crossbar.
Arrows held on for the three points and climbed up to fourth place and a points behind Sundowns.
