Neil Lennon could potentially consider Victor Wanyama's return to Celtic

Scottish Premiership side Celtic are reportedly on the hunt for a central but more preferably a defensive midfielder to join the club ahead of the January transfer window.

According to a source via Football Insider, Celtic are looking at the possibility of acquiring the services of Tottenham Hotspur star Victor Wanyama which could be ideal considering the stiff competition in the squad with Harry Winks and Eric Dier at the helm of midfield.

Wanyama who joined Celtic back in 2011 on a four-year contract has reportedly expressed his desire to return to the club; a move that Spurs could potentially be open to; considering the fact that the Kenyan international changed his mind on a move to Club Brugge.

Manager Neil Lennon has been making use of Callum McGregor, Scott Brown and Oliver Ntcham in midfield, however, he has preferred using Ntcham in a more attacking role.

Lennon's main concern right now would be if the abovementioned three players get injured in the deep midfield role, something he is facing in the striking department with Odsonne Edouard being his only striker who is fully fit and playing in every match for The Hoops.

The manager will certainly be looking for a striker and a defensive midfielder as he goes into the market in the January transfer window and there is no doubt why Wanyama wouldn't be a possibility as he is eager to get more minutes on the pitch which has been hindered by his consistent injury woes.
