Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix has been named the winner of the 2019 Golden Boy award.
The 20-year-old Portugal star had a brilliant season with Benfica last season where he scored 20 goals and provided 11 assists across all competitions as his side reclaimed the Portuguese top-flight title in 2018/19.
His exploits saw Atletico Madrid break their fee record by forking out £113m for his services over the summer after being linked to a series of clubs across Europe.
His exploits earned him the Primeira Liga‘s ‘Best Young Player of the Year’ award, while he was also handed a first international cap for Portugal where he has racked up four appearances and played a part as his homeland triumphed in the inaugural National League against the Netherlands last June.
His start to life to Atletico Madrid hasn’t been bad too as he has scored three goals in his 13 games for the Madrid club. He netted in the Champions League against Lokomotiv Moscow earlier this campaign, becoming the youngest player to score in the competition for the club as a result.
He beat off competition from some of the best talents in world football that included Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho (who came in second place) with Kai Havertz following them in third.
