NFF negotiating bonus payment with Super Eagles players

The Nigeria Football Federation says it is in the process of negotiating with Super Eagles players on a new template of bonus payments.

The Super Eagles are currently receiving $15,000 as tournament bonus and $10,000 for other national engagements.

Reacting to coach Gernot Rohr's claim that he is being owed an outstanding $100,000 bonus package by the federation, a member of the Glasshouse Technical Department Bitrus Bewarang said discussions are underway on the new model.

“The present NFF started the policy of paying players a percentage of tournament bonuses during the 2018 FIFA World Cup just to motivate them, outside their bonuses and allowances.

“We did not pay any bonus for the 2021 AFCON qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Lesotho because we are in the process of negotiating with the players on a new template of bonus payments based on performance after qualification for championships. This is still being discussed.”

Nigeria currently sit atop proceedings in Group L of the 2021 AFCON qualifiers with six points after recording wins against Lesotho and Benin Republic respectively.
