Lille coach Christophe Galtier has explained that his decision to bench top striker Victor Osimhen in their final UEFA Champions League tie against Chelsea was because the game was inconsequential.
Lille had already crashed out prior to the game after managing just one point from six matches.
Osimhen was left on the bench for all duration of the 2-1 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Galtier said he did not regret his decision to bench some major players and give some others the opportunity.
"I wouldn't say I have regrets regarding my choices.
“Obviously, we've got some tough fixtures coming up, Montpellier then a Cup game and Monaco.
“There was in effect nothing to play for in this game, so I don't have any regrets,'' Galtier asserted.
"I am also happy I managed to give some players the chance to start in this competition.
"Our objective is clear for the next three games, that's what we are focusing on. We'll see what happens starting from Friday with Montpellier.
"There have been a lot of games back-to-back as well since November.
Osimhen, who has recorded 11 goals and 3 assists in 21 appearances for Lille so far this season was on target against Chelsea and Valencia on matchday two and four respectively.
