Manchester City have a massive advantage in the Carabao Cup first leg after beating arch-rivals Manchester United 1-3 to bag bragging rights.
B. Silva goal
City mounted a strong start to the game and took the lead in the 17th minute when De Bruyne slipped the ball inside for Bernardo Silva, who went past Fred to curl the ball into the top left to beat an outstretched De Gea.
After squandering a host of chances, City finally doubled their lead in the 33rd minute when Bernardo Silva picked up possession in the center circle to find Mahrez who rounded De Gea to slot the ball home nonchalantly.
Pereira own goal
United's nightmare first half showed no signs of abating as Mahrez brushed past Williams to fed the ball to De Bruyne whose shot was saved by De Gea only for the ball to pinball off Pereira six yards out and into the gaping net in the 38th minute.
Solskjaer's men were handed a chance to pull one back in the 64th minute when Rordi fouled Pereira after a clever Lindelof pass but Rashford who stepped up to take the free-kick ballooned the ball over.
The England international was just getting warmed up as United pulled one back in the 70th minute when De Bruyne's short pass was intercepted by Greenwood who played in Rashford to fire the ball past Bravo after taking a touch.
United will look to pick themselves up when they host Norwich City on Saturday, January 11 while will look to exert their dominance against Aston Villa a day later.
