Manchester United 4-0 Norwich City: Red Devils bag first win of the Decade

Manchester United finally got up and running in the new decade after whitewashing struggling Norwich City 4-0 to return to fifth on the log.

Without a win in the new decade after three games, the match was a must-win for United if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was to keep his job while Norwich needed a win to start their revival from relegation.

Rashford goal

After a promising start, United finally opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Mata shifted the ball onto his left foot and delivered a devilish cross that Rashford tapped in after making a lovely run to mark his 200th appearance for United with a goal.

Marcus Rashford has now scored 18 goals in all competitions this season with only Raheem Sterling (20) having more among Premier League players.

Cantwell chance

Todd Cantwell should have taken Norwich into half time level when he was in acres of space on the left flank and fired an Emi Buendía pass first time but David De Gea was on hand to save the ball from creeping into the bottom right corner.

Rashford brace

United resumed the second half brightly and only took five minutes to double their lead when Brandon Williams was brought down by Tim Krul after going past him. Rashford held his nerve to squeeze the ball past Krul who guessed the right direction.

Martial goal

Norwich were rocked by the goal and let in another one in the 53rd minute when a quick corner was played to Mata who whipped in another fine cross that was headed in by Anthony Martial for his eighth league goal of the season.

Greenwood goal

United put the game to bed in the 76th minute when substitute Mason Greenwood got his ninth goal of a memorable season, driving past Tim Krul from outside the area with typical precision from his left boot that has been compared to Robin van Persie.

United held on for the emphatic 4-0 win to return to fifth on the log with 34 points from 22 games while Norwich City remain rock bottom with 14 points from 22 games.

Next assignments

United next take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in an FA Cup replay on Wednesday, January 15 while Norwich will look to pick themselves against fellow strugglers AFC Bournemouth on Saturday, January 18.
