VPL: Simba consolidate lead after thumping Alliance

Simba FC on Sunday stretched their Vodacom Premier League lead with a 4-1 thrashing of Alliance FC in a match played at CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza.

Israel Simba had given the hosts the lead in the 27th minute before Jonas Mkude cancelled the lead at the stroke of half time. Meddie Kagere added the second in the 58th minute with Clatous Chama stretching the lead in the 64th minute.

Hassan Dilunga got an early birthday gift with a 73rd-minute strike effectively putting the game out of reach for Alliance FC.

Simba have now amassed 41 points from 16 matches, winning 13, drawing twice and losing only once this season. They have opened a nine-point gap from the second-placed Azam FC, who have a game in hand.

Alliance FC continued their dismal run having won only once in their last five matches and have now lost three straight matches. They are 13th on the log with 20 points after 16 rounds of matches.
