Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker has revealed that his key striker has signed for Absa Premiership heavyweights SuperSport United.
Barker’s post match conference after beating Baroka FC 1-0 last Friday- was marked by the revelation that striker Iqraam Rayners is already a SuperSport player.
Asked to confirm if the rumours were correct, Barker said via Kick Off. "Ja no Iqraam he's signed a pre-contract with SuperSport for next season.
"You know that's fine, we are happy for him. You know we are a club that don't stand in people's way if they feel they've got better opportunities elsewhere. And you know we wish him well, he has done very well for us.
"He helped us get promoted, and he's doing a great job for us now. He's been very good for our club. He knows that we wish him well going forward, and yes it is what it is.
"He is still here, he is still playing for us, he will honour his contract until the end of the season. We are happy that he is committed to the club till the end of the season and it's part of football, people move on.
The former AmaZulu and University of Pretoria coach expressed further good wishes while positively mentioning that Rayners’ departure will create an opportunity for another player or two.
"It creates an opportunity for other players to come in and we know he's been very good for us, top goalscorer last year. This year he's adding value in scoring goals and assists.
"But you know sometimes you can't always compete with the other clubs, and we're not going to be a club that will stay in a player's way. We wish him the best, and hopefully he's got a good career going forward.
"We look forward to him contributing till the end of the season. His contract is coming to an end in June, yes,” concluded Barker.
