Rwanda Football Federation (Ferwafa) has rescinded its decision to part ways with Amavubi head coach Vincent Mashami and will offer him a contract extension.
On Thursday last week, we reported that Mashami, whose contract ended in November 2020, had been sacked by Ferwafa and that they were set to announce a replacement in the coming weeks.
Rwanda media, however, is reporting that the FA has in fact offered the former APR coach a contract extension after discussions with the Ministry for Sports. The details of the extension are however not yet public.
“We have decided to keep him (Mashami) as head coach after discussions between concerned parties. What follows now is to work on details of his contract and we will announce everything as soon as it is done,” Ferwafa Secretary-General Regis Uwayezu was quoted Times Sport.
Mashami was under fire after failing to collect any points in the first two matches of AFCON 2021 qualifiers. Amavubi lost 2-0 in Mozambique before succumbing to a 1-0 loss to Cameroon in Kigali.
He, however, guided Rwanda to this year's CHAN set for Cameroon in April and made sure they qualified to 2022 World Cup qualifying group stage.
