🔥 Chelsea vs Arsenal: Classic clashes at the Bridge featuring Kanu, Essien, Drogba & Van Persie

Arsenal's last Premier League win at Stamford Bridge came all the way back in October 2011 when they won a pulsating eight-goal thriller.

That's just one memorable Stamford Bridge battle between these London rivals that we're looking back on ahead of the rivalry's latest instalment tonight.

KANU believe it!

Cometh the moment, cometh the man, and in 1999 that man was Nwankwo Kanu. Arsenal trailed 2-0 heading into the last 15 minutes at a waterlogged Stamford Bridge. A hat-trick from the Nigerian, including a miraculous effort from an acute angle to settle the contest, will never be forgotten by travelling Gooners. Relive it below:

Essien's swerving strike salvages a point

Chelsea slipped eight points adrift of leaders Manchester United as Ghanaian superstar Michael Essien scored a ferocious curving pile-driver to level matters at the Bridge. Mathieu Flamini had put Arsenal ahead just six minutes prior to Essien's thunderbolt, in an ill-tempered match which saw Ashley Cole face old club Arsenal for the first time since a controversial move across the capital.

A frantic finish saw Chelsea hit the woodwork twice in second-half stoppage time, first through Essien and then through Frank Lampard (who had hit the post in the first half as well), and Arsenal escaped with a draw that their performance probably didn't merit.

Drogba torments the Gunners

There are very few opponents that Ivorian powerhouse Didier Drogba enjoyed playing against quite like Arsenal. He scored 13 goals against them in all competitions, eight of those coming in the Premier League, and two of them arriving on this day as he fired Chelsea to a come-from-behind win. Power and desire were two of Drogba's strongest attributes and both were on display every time he turned out against the Gunners in London derbies.

RVP hat-trick underlines EPL MVP status

Where does one even start with a game like this?

Robin van Persie's hat-trick inspired Arsenal to a thrilling victory against Chelsea after the visitors twice trailed in the contest. Van Persie took his personal tally to 28 goals in 27 Premier League matches and Chelsea skipper John Terry had an afternoon to forget, slipping to allow the Dutchman in for his second and Arsenal's fourth. Van Persie would go on to win the Premier League's Golden Boot that season.

Here's how the goals went in:

1-0 (Lampard 14); 1-1 (van Persie 36); 2-1 (Terry 45); 2-2 (Santos 49); 2-3 (Walcott 55); 3-3 (Mata 80); 3-4 (van Persie 85); 3-5 (van Persie 90+2).

🔵 Chelsea 3-2 Arsenal

Tough start for Unai Emery
August 2018

In Unai Emery's second match in charge of Arsenal, Chelsea an early two-goal lead through Pedro and Alvaro Morata, only for the Gunners to level matters through Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi in a breathless first half. The Gunners spurned numerous chances to go on and win the game, and that would come back to haunt them when Marcos Alonso popped up with the winner on 81 minutes. The defending on this day wasn't as chaotic as it was in the eight-goal thriller back in 2011, but it wasn't particularly good either.

One can only wonder what's in store tonight.
