Sheffield United 0-1 Manchester City: Aguero saves Pep's blushes

Sergio Aguero came off the bench to give Man City a much-needed win against a stubborn Sheffield United, as the Blues looked to cement 2nd place on the log.

How it happened:

First half

The Blues enjoyed some good possession and threatening counter-attacks, but Dean Henderson was always equal to their efforts in goal for the Blades and he remained so even when City won a penalty.

Henderson save, 19 mins

A Mahrez pass found Sterling, who tried a first-time finish, but was denied by a superb parry from Dean Henderson!

Otamendi overhead, 24 mins

The Argentine centre back pulled off an unlikely overhead kick, which was on target. The superb effort was however matched by the Blades goalkeeper who denied him a beauty.

Henderson penalty save, 35 mins

That man again. Dean Henderson.

In all fairness, it was a poor penalty from Jesus. He put it at a comfortable height but Henderson, who is in a rich vein of form kept it out.

There were claims that he was off his line before the penalty was taken, but VAR had no look.

HALF-TIME: Sheffield United 0-0 Manchester City

Gabriel Jesus squandered the chance to take the lead from the spot with Dean Henderson having a fantastic half to deny City three times.

Guardiola has to change something, really.

Second half

There were no changes when both teams came back out.

City was controlling the tempo and settling back into their usual groove but that did not seem to disturb the Blades’ backline.

Lys Mousset came off the bench and immediately into action, trying an audacious backheel to beat Ederson.

GOAL- Aguero puts City ahead!

Too late? No.

Off the bench came Aguero and saved the day!

Just moments after McBurnie missed a great chance to put Blades ahead, City took the lead. De Bruyne played a brilliant ball across the box and Aguero tapped home.

Easy come, hard-earned lead.

[De Bruyne makes history...]

After the goal, it's like Sheffield United switched off.

There was little on the attacking front from them and Man City enjoyed a few more counters that were fruitless.

FULL-TIME: Sheffield United 0-1 Manchester City

It was a hard-fought and feisty affair with a lot of tough challenges, loads of bookings and several scuffles in front of a loud Bramall Lane.

City managed to hold on to clinch the victory which also saw the return of Aymeric Laporte, who played 78 minutes of the game.
