Manchester United have reportedly made a fresh £46.7m Bruno Fernandes bid as they seek to complete the signing.
The deal will also see United add an extra £7 million in add-ons should the midfielder reach certain targets during his time at the club.
Negotiations between the two sides broke down last week with United unwilling to meet the 25-year-old's valuation.
The two camps are now said to be agreeing on a deal, which is set to be done in the next week.
Fernandes may have played his last match for Benfica on Tuesday night against Braga, and it did not go down well as they lost 2-1 in a match filled with incidents and four red cards.

Fernandes is seen as the ideal fit for the United's midfield, which has lacked a creative spark in recent seasons.
The uncertainty surrounding Paul Pogba's long-term future coupled with injuries to a number of midfielders including the Frenchman and Scott McTominay have added to their need for a world-class player in the middle of the park.
