REPORTS: Manchester United targeting Odion Ighalo and Islam Slimani

Following an injury to striker Marcus Rashford, Manchester United has turned attention to Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo and Algerian Islam Slimani to solve their striking department crisis.

Sky Sports reports that United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to take the duo on a loan deals as they expect Rashford to be out for months.

Both strikers have Premier League experience with Ighalo who is currently in the books of Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua having featured for Watford; Slimani being on loan at Monaco from Leicester.

Ighalo scored 17 goals in 55 Premier League appearances for the Hornets before moving to China in 2017. Slimani, on the other hand, has 13 goals in 46 appearances for Leicester but has been loaned out to Newcastle, Fenerbahce and Monaco since his arrival at the King Power Stadium in 2016 from Sporting Lisbon.

Solskjaer had intimated that they might rope in a striker this January but there were no guarantees towards that with the Norwegian saying he had entrusted the club’s youth players to fill the void left by the injured players.

Already, the club has strongly been linked with a move for Portugal international Bruno Fernandes and Birmingham City midfielder Jude Bellingham. It is said they have submitted a £30m bid for Bellingham with the club falling short in Fernandes valuation.

United are six points behind fourth-placed Chelsea following their consecutive defeats to Burnley and Premier League leaders Liverpool.
