Harambee Stars forward Michael Olunga congratulated Eluid Kipchoge who beat him to the 2019 Sports Personality of the Year (SOYA) Sports Man of the Year Award.
Olunga had an outstanding year in 2019, scoring 27 goals the entire season as he finished second in the Japanese J2 Golden Boot race.
The former Gor Mahia striker finished the season with aplomb, netting eight goals against Kyoto Sanga and breaking the most goals scored in a single match in Japan.
Olunga also scored a brace against Tanzania in the 2019 African Cup of Nations as Kenya missed out on a place in the knockout phases of the tournament on goal difference.
Eliud Kipchoge, on the other hand, had a superb year as he solidified his place in history by winning his 4th London Marathon with a time of 2:02:37.
He followed that feat by becoming the first person to run a 42-kilometer marathon in under two hours. Kipchoge completed the INEOS 1:59 Challenge in 1:59:40 seconds in Vienna, Austria, in October.
Olunga took to Twitter to congratulate Kipchoge, "Congratulations @EliudKipchoge
Indeed your 2019 was great and you put Kenya on the global map with your heroics in the field. Thanks to everyone who took their time to vote for me. I appreciate."
