Harambee Stars defender Brian Mandela Onyango is training with PSL side Highlands Park with the aiming of securing a deal.
As reported by FarPost, Mandela joined the team’s training this week with the player said to have trained with Baroka FC too.
Highlands Park head coach Owen Da Gama said of Mandela: “No there is nothing (signing), he just came yesterday. He just arrived yesterday.”
Highlands are looking to shore their defender after letting in 26 goals in the 19 league matches they have played this season.
Onyango had been training with Orlando Pirates last year after being released by Maritzburg United prior to the start of the 2019/20 Season.
The defender has not tasted any competitive football this year after picking up an injury prior to the 2019 African Cup of Nations despite being named in the Harambee Stars squad that pitched camp in France prior to the competition.
Apart from Maritzburg, the defender featured for Santos FC in South Africa and had stints with Posta Rangers and Tusker FC in the Kenyan scene.
The transfer deadline comes to a close today but players like Mandela who are free agents are able to sign at any time of the year if they find deals that please them.
