FC Groningen defender Mike te Wierik is reportedly set to join Derby County on a three-year deal in the European summer transfer window, according to Derbyshire Live.
Derby County manager Phillip Cocu confirmed the news on deadline day (January 31) that he was hoping to add Wierik to his squad in hopes of bolstering the defence.
"I cannot confirm it because there is nothing signed yet. We are having positive conversations with him. We will try to get it done," Cocu said on Friday after the 4-0 victory over Stoke City.
According to Wegdamnieuws, the 27-year-old underwent a successful medical at Pride Park over the weekend and the deal is set to be completed in the next transfer window.
The move has come at a right time as he is set to be a free agent at the end of the 2019/20 season, with his club not expected to renew his contract.
He told Fox Sports via Football Oranje that he is confident that the move will materialise: "I think the odds are very high, so I’m assuming it’s going to be fine. It’s a nice step, I think."
