Matuidi to stay at Juventus for another season after club triggers a clause in his contract

French midfielder Blaise Matuidi will remain at Juventus until 2021 after the club exercised a one-year extension option in his contract.

Speaking to Le Figaro on Sunday Matuidi said: "In my contract, there was an option for another year. Juventus have exercised it. I never had any doubts about it. I feel the trust of everyone."

Matuidi’s deal with the defending Serie A champions had been due to expire at the end of this campaign.

The World Cup winner joined Juve in 2017 after a decorated spell with PSG and has twice lifted the Serie A title and tasted success in the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana in his time with the Bianconeri.

He has started the majority of their Serie A and Champions League matches under Maurizio Sarri this season and was part of the team that defeated SPAL 2-1 at the weekend to maintain a one-point lead over Lazio at the top of Serie A.

Next for Matuidi and team is a Champions League against French giants Lyon on Wednesday.
