Bonginkosi Ntuli scored to ensure Absa Premiership leaders Kaizer Chiefs lost to AmaZulu at the FNB Stadium this evening.
The loss ruined Chiefs an opportunity to go 10 points clear of the second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns while Orlando Pirates remain in the hunt with seven points behind on third place.
Chiefs nearly went 1-0 in the 29th minute as Lebogang Manyama laid a peachy through ball for Leonardo Castro but the Colombian striker's first-time low finish went inches wide.
AmaZulu responded with a shock lead via Bonginkosi Ntuli. Talent Chawapiwa did superbly to find Ntuli who banged in his goal number 12 of the season.
Substitute Khama Billiat began with a perfect cross for Manyama but the playmakers header went narrowly wide. It was Billiat again coming very close with two more missed headers on 78 and 85 minutes.
Usuthu almost went 2-0 in the final two minutes of the game when George Maluleka's attempted clearance hit the crossbar.
The relegation-threatened AmaZulu eventually held out for the three points and left Amakhosi in danger of bottling the title. The win helped Usuthu lift themselves out of the rock bottom placing while Sundowns will need a win on Tuesday to go just a point behind Chiefs.
