CAF has suspended Raja Casablanca defender Iliass Haddad indefinitely for punching a TP Mazembe fan in their ill-tempered CAF Champions League quarterfinal on Friday in Lubumbashi.
Haddad was filmed hitting a fan as a group of Raja players engaged in a confrontation with a section of TP Mazembe fans. The hosts won 1-0 but bowed out on 2-1 aggregate after losing 2-0 in Casablanca in the first leg.
The CAF Disciplinary Board report read: "Prior to the start of the match, there was a confrontation between some players of Raja and supporters of TP Mazembe close to the tunnel. After watching a video of the incident, the CAF Disciplinary Board has decided as follows;
To further investigate the matter at hand. Officials of Raja are required to send their report on the incident which took place during the match in question by 15 March 2020 at the latest. Furthermore, they are to appear before the Disciplinary Board at the next meeting for an official hearing.
To suspend player #15 Iliass Haddad immediately and provisionally until he appears before the Disciplinary Board at the next meeting for an official hearing."
Raja will play Zamalek in the semis set for May 8 as Wydad lock horns with Al Ahly in the second semi-final.
