Van Dijk admits 'it'll be difficult' for Liverpool after they were dumped out of Champions League

Liverpool center-back Virgil van Dijk has urged his teammates to dust themselves up and move on from their disappointing loss to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

The defending champions' journey came to a disappointing end on Wednesday night, losing 3-2 to the Spanish side and bow out in a 4-2 aggregate defeat.

The Reds have been outstanding through the campaign, but have failed short in cup ties and will now fight for the Premier League, which is within their reach.

"We know we have been doing it all season, I think people forget those things pretty quickly if things are not going well for a couple of games, but that’s the reality, too, of how people look at us.

"We’ve been outstanding the whole season and we have to just keep doing what we are doing. It’s not easy but the thing now is to just make sure that we will be ready for a very tough game on Monday.”

The Netherlands international then highlighted their next match, a Merseyside derby against Everton, knowing a win will move them even closer to the title.

"Everybody wants to play that game. It’s going to be a very tough game, a big challenge, and something that we all should enjoy," he said.

He added: "But for now obviously we make sure we recover and get our heads up again because we didn’t lose here for a long, long time, but it happens.”

Jurgen Klopp's men lead the English Premier League table on 82 points, 25 ahead of defending champions Manchester City, and could move to within three points of lifting the title with a win over their rivals.
