CAF Emergency Committee will soon be meeting to dispense another pending issue on their in-tray; the 2020 Africa Women Cup (AWCON) host country.
The 2020 AWCON is yet to find a host after initial hosts Congo-Brazzaville withdrew late last year. CAF immediately invited bids for the tournament with Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea expressing their interest in taking over.
However, CAF had yet to announce the final hosts as they said the two bids lacked some critical details.
"We considered that the two applications were not complete. So countries had to provide additional items. We were to have the name of the host country at the end of April. But as the meeting of the Executive Committee has been postponed, there is no new date yet," CAF's acting secretary-general Abdel Bah told Afrique Football Media.
Abdel Bah added that the Executive Committee or the Emergency Committee will meet as soon as possible to identify the host country.
“We are following the case closely at the Secretariat. Either of the two committees will come up with a name at the earliest opportunity."
The 12th edition of AWCON 2020 will be expanded from eight to 12 teams. The tournament is scheduled for 23 November to 20 December 2020 with final qualifiers that were set for April cancelled due to the coronavirus crisis.
