Seven players you almost forgot played for Chelsea

For the last two decades, Chelsea has seen some of the brightest talents don the famous blue jersey.

That's partially due to Roman Abramovich's deep pockets which made it easier for the club to attract some of the best players.

The likes of Franco Zola, Michael Ballack, Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, Frank Lampard, John Terry, and Eden Hazard remain iconic figures at the club.

But there are some that disappeared faster than they came and many fans almost forgot they ever played for Chelsea.

1. Ricardo Quaresma

The winger was loaned to Chelsea in 2009 after failing to impress Jose Mourinho at Inter Milan. Felipe Luis Scolari, who had worked with him within the Portuguese national set-up snapped him up and gave him a chance at Stamford Bridge.

He was to provide cover for the then injured Joe Cole, who had been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

His pace on the wing lit Stamford Bridge in a few occasions, but that was it, after the loan deal, nothing was heard of him again.

2. Mineiro

Just like Quaresma, Carlos Luciano da Silva, nicknamed Mineiro, was signed by Scolari in 2008 as a third-choice defensive midfielder.

He disappeared after only a couple of months, where he made a single start, aginst Burnley in the League Cup, many won't remember him for sure.

3. Scott Sinclair

One player who never attained his potential. He was signed by the Blues at the age of 16 after he became the second-youngest debutant for Bristol Rovers.

He had immense potential and came close to breaking into the first team, but just like other youngsters, it was never to be and was later sold after five loan stints with different clubs.

4. Fabio Borini

Borini was with the Blues between 2007 and 2011 but failed to convince and was sent out on loan to Swansea before returning to his home country with Parma and Roma.

He was later signed by Liverpool and then Sunderland, where he became a key figure for the Black Cats and managed to score four times against Chelsea.

He has also featured for AC Milan and is currently with Hellas Verona F.C.

5. Franco Di Santo

Back in 2008, Chelsea signed a young Argentine striker in Franco Di Santo, who had all the right qualities to succeed in the Premier League.

But it was never to be. He ran into challenges young players moving to England do, with one of them being unable to break into the starting lineup.

Chelsea had some of the best strikers in the Premier League and by extension the world. Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka, and Salomon Kalou were all ahead of him.

In the end, he left after two years having made only 16 appearances.

6. Steve Sidwell

The midfielder was signed by Jose Mourinho in 2007 and handed the number 9 jersey that has somewhat carried a 'curse' at the club.

True to that, he never scored a single goal for the Blues and after making only 15 appearances, he left a disappointed man.

7. Alexandre Pato

In January 2016, Chelsea signed Pato, the once prolific AC Milan hitman, from Brazilian side Corinthians.

The then 26-year-old had enjoyed some unforgettable memories in Europe with the Italian side, netting 18 goals in 42 games during the 2008/9 season.

He, however, failed to re-ignite his career in England and he fell into the bucket of some strange signings by the Blues.
