Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann has leapt to Olivier Giroud's defense, following a spat involving Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.
In an Instagram live video, Benzema said he could not be compared with the Chelsea forward as he was in the 'go-kart category', while he was in the Formula One level.
"You don't compare Formula 1 with karting, and I am being nice," Benzema said.
In an interview on Thursday, Griezmann defended the striker, whom they won the World Cup together in Russia in 2018.
"I can't answer all that, that could get me into trouble," Griezmann said.
"I love Olivier Giroud, he's a good player and he helped us win the World Cup. And that's important in life."
Benzema, however, did not apologize following his comments, and instead chose to go even harder on his attack.
"About Giroud, I simply told the truth," Benzema said. "But we didn't remember what I said about him, especially about what he brings to the French national team.
"We just remembered the moment when I said I was F1 and he was karting.
"That's what I think, that's the truth, and that's how it is."
Benzema has not been selected to the French national team for five years now following a blackmailing row involving one of his teammates, Mathieu Valbuena.
