Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell says that William Saliba has the capability of walking straight into the Gunners defence next season.
Arsenal signed Saliba in summer but sent him back to Ligue 1 side Saint Etienne for the rest of the season. He is scheduled to join the London club at the beginning of next season.
The 19-year-old has had a start-stop season blighted by injury woes but has put in impressive performances whenever fit and on the pitch.
Campbell told Chronicles of a Gooner podcast that he believes Saliba signing was the best decision Arsenal made last summer.
“We made a very astute signing last year which many gave the club stick for Saliba. At least we’ve got a centre half, a big, strong, quick, centre half who is going to go straight into that side. He has to.
“Do we need another one? Yes, we probably do. Will we get one? Who knows?”
Arsenal fans are understandably excited by the prospect of Saliba's arrival, with Campbell believing the teenager has to start for the Gunners next season.
There have been questions about Gunners central defence with Shkodran Mustafi coming in for sharp criticism over his performances.
