Olivier Giroud outlines the two milestones he hopes to achieve with France before retiring

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud is hoping to hit a century of caps with the France national team despite the coronavirus pandemic halting all major soccer activities.

The striker has 97 caps to his name and was hoping to reach the milestone during this year's EURO tournament.

The coronavirus pandemic however forced UEFA to push the tournament to next year, and the 33-year-old is hopeful he can make Didier Deschamps' team.

He has also scored 39 goals, two shy of Michel Platini, and he hopes he can overtake one of the best players to ever play for Les Bleus.

"I am at 97 caps and I hoped to reach the 100 mark at the March and June friendlies. This is only a postponement," he said during an interview with Le Dauphine Libere

"Regarding the number of goals, I am only two off Michel Platini, it is also clearly an objective."

His immediate assignment will, however, be ensuring he remains in Frank Lampard's team going into next season.

He was sparingly used during the first half of the 2019/20 season under Lampard, only getting a chance thanks to Tammy Abraham's injury early this year.
