Golden Arrows and Warriors left-back Divine Lunga, has revealed that the 2019 AFCON opener against Egypt simply helped to make his name.
Had Lunga not kept Mohamed Salah very quiet that night, many believe Zimbabwe could have been beaten by a score that was a lot worse than 1-0.
“That game against Egypt changed my life a lot,” Lunga told Sowetan Live.
“People always knew I could play, but they didn’t know how good I can be against the best in the game. After returning from Egypt everyone stopped me on the streets and praised me.
The Bulawayo-born player, who has sadly spent much of the current season out injured, believes that a bad performance in Cairo that night could have equally ended his career.
“I always wish I can go back to that game again because it was a turning point in my career. Imagine if I played badly, people were going to judge me with that for the rest of my life,” concluded the 25-year-old.
