Chiefs drop points against Wits to keep title race wide open

Absa Premiership leaders Kaizer Chiefs failed to open a six point lead after drawing 1-1 with Bidvest Wits in Soweto on Wednesday night.

Chiefs' draw means the second placed Mamelodi Sundowns will only be one point behind Chiefs, if Sundowns manage to beat Highlands Park on Friday.

Ernst Middendorp's side was wholly dominant throughout the game, with Samir Nurkovic opening the lead with a headed corner kick 10 minutes before half time. The Serbian nearly made it 2-0 around the 60th minute but his superb curler was denied by the bar.

Amakhosi thought they would hold on to the three points, until Wits midfielder Cole Alexander struck an excellent volley into the net on 90 minutes for 1-1.

Chiefs next face Polokwane City on Saturday night, while Wits take on Orlando Pirates on the same day.
