Arsenal is sweating over David Luiz's fitness ahead of the Premier League opening game against Fulham on Saturday.
As reported by David Ornstein, Luiz's is a major injury concern after a neck complaint that could see him sidelined for an extended period. Mikel Arteta could use Rob Holding, who is linked with a loan move to Newcastle United, in the absence of the Brazilian.
The former Chelsea defender sustained the problem during Arsenal's win over Liverpool last month in a Community Shield clash. Luiz is reported to have aggravated the neck injury during a training session.
Further reports claim the nature of the issue could force Luiz to be on the sidelines for around six weeks but it depends on how the player responds to treatment.
"Irrespective of David Luiz injury Mikel Arteta has made clear he wants Rob Holding as a center-back option this season & the 24yo is now expected to stay at Arsenal rather than join Newcastle on loan. He’s also in line to start at Fulham on Saturday," Ornstein reported.
The Gunners will start their 2020/21 Premier League season this weekend away to newly-promoted Fulham.
