After Borussia Dortmund's surprise 2-0 loss away to Augsburg on Saturday, the drama continued on Sunday as defending Champions Bayern Munich were stunned 4-1 away to Hoffenheim.
Fresh from winning the UEFA Super Cup in Budapest on Thursday, it was expected to be an easy ride against Hoffenheim, but they came stuck as they lost their first match since December 2019.
The hosts took a 2-0 lead inside a quarter an hour, and despite Bayern pulling one back to trail 2-1 going into the break, the hosts added two more in the second half to totally blow them out.
Ermin Bicakcic jumped the highest on the 16th minute to meet a perfectly executed corner kick by Dennis Geiger, heading home for a 1-0 lead.
It did not take long for the hosts to double their lead as Munas Dabbur dribbled into the box before perfectly lifting the ball over the goalkeeper and into the net.
Joshua Kimmich however pulled one back for the champions on the 36th minute, and it proved their only goal of the game, powering home a glorious strike into the top right corner off the post.
Bayern did not seem all confident in the second half, and they crumbled as the hosts added a third and a fourth to seal the victory.
First, Andrej Kramaric's first-time shot found the back of the net on the 79th minute, but the credit went to Ihlas Bebou, who showed great vision with a cheeky pass inside the box.
The Croatian then added a second from the spot in added time, after Manuel Neuer had been penalized for tripping.
In the end, it was a deserving win for the hosts, with Bayern suffering their first loss since December 2019.
It was also the first time since November 2019 that Bayern conceded more than three goals in a Bundesliga match.
