Argentina kicked off their World Cup campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Ecuador on Thursday night at the iconic La Bombonera Stadium.
Barcelona forward Lionel Messi scored the all-important goal on the 13th minute from the spot, following a serious challenge by Pervis Estupinan on Lucas Ocampos inside the penalty area.

The goal took his international tally to 71, as Argentina extended their unbeaten run to eight matches.
Messi also reached a personal milestone with the goal, equalling the great Ronaldo's record for most goals scored for a South American national team in competitive matches (39 goals each).
The clash was initially planned for March this year, but just like many other competitions, was postponed as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.
Argentina will next travel to face Bolivia on Tuesday for their second match, while Ecuador host Uruguay on the same day.
