Arsenal has left midfielder Mesut Ozil out of their Premier League squad for the 2020/21 season.
Ozil, the highest-paid player in Arsenal's history, played in every Premier League game under Mikel Arteta until the season was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic - and has not featured since.
Apart from Ozil, the North London club has excluded Centre-back Sokratis from the 25-man list with both players only eligible to represent the club’s U23s; Ozil's contract at the Emirates Stadium set to expire next summer.
Arsenal currently has 19 non-homegrown players over the age of 21, two more than the limit allowed by both the Premier League and UEFA.
Özil is also not registered with the team’s Europa League squad (which starts on Thursday) and would not be available for the EFL Cup either.
The Wolrd Cup winner has been with the club since 2013 and has 44 goals and 77 assists in 254 appearances.
Arsenal 25-man Premier League squad now confirmed. The missing names that you would expect are all included in the U21s list (Ozil and Sokratis aside obviously). pic.twitter.com/cC0VrPl5Wm— Charles Watts (@charles_watts) October 20, 2020
