Donny van de Beek bench role at Manchester United isn’t going well with everyone who is aware of his capabilities.
After United legend, Patrice Evra questioned why the player was signed in the summer, Dutch great Marco van Basten has now claimed that the midfielder should have never joined Manchester United.
De Beek failed to make an appearance in the club’s drub draw against Chelsea on Saturday and according to Basten, a good player like the former Ajax man should be playing every week.
“Donny should not have gone to Manchester United. When you are a good player you want to play every week. It is really bad for a player like Donny to play only six or seven games this year.
“That is shocking for your match rhythm. I know he is earning loads and loads more than he used to. But as a top player, you have to be critical and look at the chances of playing when you sign for a new club. Donny should have waited for better prospects and signed for another club," Basten said.
The player who is one of the brightest prospects to come from the Ajax, the academy has found breaking into the United team hard to come by with the likes of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes who plays his position all above him in the pecking order.
