Steven Gerrard explains why Zungu can't play yet

Rangers FC manager Steven Gerrard has revealed how long Bongani Zungu has to wait for his debut for the Scottish club.

While the public easily assumed Zungu arrived too soon to be included in the club’s Europa League game on Thursday night, fans can’t really be fully sure of the reasons until confirmation from the player’s manager.

“He hasn’t trained with a group for quite some time now, if you look at the previous months, he hasn’t played many games. We registered him because we want him fit and available and sharp as quick as we can,” Gerrard told the Glasgow Times.

So how long might the 28-year-old Zungu wait before donning the famous blue jersey and take onto the grass?

“We don’t predict seeing the best out of Bongani for another couple of weeks, three weeks, at least, because he needs game-time. He has been called up by the national team so hopefully, we can get him over with the national team and he can get more training and more game-time. Then, after the international break, he will be good to go,” Gerrard added.
