Ghana national team head coach Charles Akonnor firmly believes his charges did the best they could despite losing out to Sudan in the dying minutes of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Akonnor revealed that a Sudanese official attempted to frustrate his players before kick-off and insists that the weather was also a factor in his side's loss but he still feels proud of the boys.
“Overall, I think we did well,” Akonnor said. The players fought under uncomfortable conditions like the weather and the Sudanese tried to frustrate us before the game and I appreciate the players’ effort.
“The Sudanese players were hungrier than us. We will learn from the mistakes we did today and we’ll do well against South Africa and São Tomé and qualify."
The Black Stars needed to draw or at least win against Sudan to qualify for a place in Cameroon and now they will have to win their next two fixtures to be guaranteed a place next year.
