Wolves, Southampton share the spoils at Molineux

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton shared the spoils at the Molineux on Monday night in an exciting clash that ended 1-1.

The high-flying Saints went into the match looking to move to third in the standings and came close as they led going into the last quarter of the match.

Theo Walcott gave the visitors a 56th-minute lead, his first goal for the Saints in over 14 years, tapping into an empty net after a loss in concentration from the hosts' backline.

Pedro Neto though pulled the hosts level in the 75th minute, after a rebound from Raul Jimenez's shot, which hit the upright, fell to his feet and he easily beat the goalie.

Wolves thought they had scored a second on the 78th minute, but Jimenez's goal was controversially disallowed for offside, sparking angry reactions from the home team players.

The match ended 1-1 with Southampton moving to fifth in the standings on 17 points, three off leaders Liverpool and Tottenham, who are both on 20.

For Nuno Espirito's men, the point took their tally to 13, placing them 12th in the standings.
