Swallows grab late winner to break Kaizer Chiefs hearts

DStv Premiership newcomers Swallows maintained an unbeaten start to South Africa's top division, thanks a late Joseph Mhlongo goal to beat Kaizer Chiefs.

Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt kept the exact same team that earned a 2-2 draw away at Golden Arrows, with the pressure burning hot after three games without a win.

Chiefs had the first best chance to open the score, as Khama Billiat's perfect free-kick delivery was headed wide by Willard Katsande on 20 minutes.

With just minutes before the break, Amakhosi's Philani Zulu shot well inside the box but his effort was denied by the post. Leonardo Castro then forced the ball into the net in first-half stoppage time, but the officials ruled the action in favour of Swallows for a foul.

With few and far between action and attacking play in the second half, Swallows substitute Joseph Mhlongo virtually threw himself at a delightful Lebohang Mokoena cross to take the 1-0 win.

The result left the Dube Birds at the top of the league with a point ahead of the champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
