β˜ οΈπŸ† BREAKING: Orlando Pirates beat Bloem Celtic to win the MTN8 Cup

Orlando Pirates beat Bloemfontein Celtic 2-1 to win the MTN8 and the club's first trophy in six years.

Celtic took a shock lead via Siphelele Luthuli as early as the 4th minute, thanks to a Mzwanele Mahashe flick for Luthuli to volley home past Richard Ofori.

Siwelele very nearly made it 2-0 just two minutes later, when Ndumiso Mabena's lovely through pass to Menzi Masuku was cut out by a flying Ntsikelelo Nyauza in the six-yard box.

A key turning of the game followed, when Thabang Monare was forced off by a knee injury to allow Thembinkosi Lorch to enter before the 15th minute.

10 minutes later was the arrival of Bucs' equalizer. Celtic's Ronald Pfumbidzai miscontrolled an interception in the box towards Deon Hotto, who cooly side-footed past Jackson Mabokgwane for 1-1.

The Pirates lead  and eventual winner was taken on 51 minutes, when star substitute Lorch caught Pfumbidzai's for pace, forcing the Zimbabwean defender to pull the Bafana Bafana international for a penalty and red card.

The 27-year-old Lorch stepped up and expertly fired home from the penalty spot for 2-1.

Celtic duly threw high pressure on Pirates' defence, but goalkeeper Ofori was solid enough to deny the best goal attempts from Mabena and Mahashe's header in the final minute.

Pirates' last title was back in 2013/14 with the Nedbank Cup under caretaker coach Eric Tinkler.
