English Championship giants Derby County have announced that Wayne Rooney has become the club's official manager.
The club confirmed the expected decision on social media on Friday afternoon, saying: "Derby County Football Club is delighted to confirm the appointment of Wayne Rooney as the club’s new manager."

The club further confirmed that the 35-year-old Rooney has been handed a two and a half-year contract, which follows after two months since the club parted ways with Phillip Cocu while Rooney was still a player-coach.
Derby, who are placed 22nd in the 24-club league, will see Rooney debut in the dugout at home to Rothernham United on Saturday.
