Olympique Lyon and Liverpool planning a memorial match for Gérard Houllier

English giants Liverpool and French Ligue One side Olympic Lyon are planning a memorial match for departed Gerard Houllier.

Houllier who passed in December 2020 managed both clubs and after their game against AC Ajaccio, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed to EuroSport they were planning to pay tribute to the legendary French coach.

Apart from the match, Lyon would rename their training ground in Houllier’s name. In his full remarks, Aulas remarked that it was important for them to not only remember Gérard’s time in Lyon but also his achievements in Liverpool and Paris.

The match is set to take place after the restriction on Covid is set aside as they plan to have fans in the stands in memory of the coach.

The Frenchman is revered among the French faithful as he was heavily involved in the technical side of things, both as a part of FIFA’s Technical Committee in the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cup finals, as well as technical director for the French Football Federation during the 2010 finals.
