Inter Milan keeper Samir Handanovic hit a milestone in the Serie A as he managed his 500th league appearance in Inter Milan’s 3-1 win over Lazio on Sunday night.
Handanovic made his Serie A debut for Udinese on 15 May 2005 in a 1-1 draw against Sampdoria and moved to Treviso the following season making three appearances before a brief spell at Lazio where he could only feature in one game; lack of game time in the latter club forcing him to move to Serie B with Rimini.
In the summer of 2012, he joined Inter with the Slovenian now in his ninth campaign with the Nerazzurri. Having been handed the armband at the club, the keeper has never finished a season at Inter with fewer than 35 appearances to his name.
According to stats from Inter, he conceded only 30 goals in 38 matches in the 2017/18 campaign and was recognized as the Best Goalkeeper in Serie A after keeping 17 clean sheets; the player being unbeaten on 173 occasions in the 500 apps.
Handanovic holds the record for the number of penalties saved in Serie A: 25 in 499 matches, one more than former Nerazzurri man Gianluca Pagliuca (24 in 592 games). The current Inter captain can also boast at having kept out the most spot-kicks in a single Serie A season: six as a Udinese player in 2010/11.
