English Championship side AFC Bournemouth have confirmed the appointment of Jonathan Woodgate as their new head coach until the end of the season.
Bournemouth had been linked with a series of names that included former Arsenal duo of Patrick Viera and Thierry Henry but opted to entrust Woodgate who has been in charge of the team on a temporary basis for the past two weeks.
In a statement, the club said: “AFC Bournemouth can confirm that Jonathan Woodgate has agreed on a short team deal to be the club’s head coach until the end of the season.
“The 41-year-old has been a caretaker manager for the Cherries’ last five fixtures, following the departure of Jason Tindall.”
During his time with the club, the former Real Madrid defender has recorded three wins, a draw, and a defeat, keeping three successive clean sheets and progressing to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup for only the second time in the club’s history.
