Tottenham 4-0 Burnley: Bale steals the show as Spurs breeze past hapless Clarets

Tottenham kept alive their hopes of making it into the top four when they whizzed past a hapless Burnley 4-0 in an English Premier League match played on Sunday afternoon. 

Gareth Bale was the star of the show, scoring a brace and assisting once, with Harry Kane and Lucas Moura getting the other two. 

Jose Mourinho's side showed their strength for the entirety of the match and got off to a perfect start as Gareth Bale stabbed home the opener after just 68 seconds, getting on the end of a Heung-min Son cross. 

Burnley tried to respond quickly and pressed Spurs for the equalise, with Rodriguez forcing a good save out fo Hugo Lloris. 

Spurs, however, showed their quality and came close to scoring twice in the opening 13 minutes before Harry Kane doubled their lead on the quarter-hour mark. 

Bale turned provider with a long over-the-top ball that found Kane on the wing with acres of space to run, and he cut inside onto his right foot before his shot took a deflection off Tarkowski and flew past Nick Pope in goal.

It was 3-0 shortly afterward as Reguilon whipped in the ball from the left and then it flicked off Tarkowski and dropped for Moura, who took a touch with his knee before firing the ball into the bottom corner for a 3-0 first-half lead.  

Spurs then wrapped up the win 10 minutes into the second hafl, and it was Bale who completed his brace with a fantastic finish, once again from a Son ball. 

The victory saw Spurs overtake Arsenal and Aston Villa to eighth, six points off fourth-placed West Ham, who hold the last Champions League spot.
