Reports: Bale's return to Spurs contributed to Mourinho, Daniel Levy fallout

During his time in charge, Jose Mourinho was allegedly forced to acknowledge Gareth Bale's return to Tottenham Hotspur against his will.

Spurs relieved Mourinho of his duties on Monday morning, just hours after Tottenham revealed their participation in the new European Super League, after a turbulent 17 months at the helm.

Though the 58-year-old's poor on-field results are thought to have contributed directly to his demise, there were reportedly some strained relations with Daniel Levy over the loan signing of Bale from Real Madrid.

According to The Telegraph, Mourinho did not want to bring Bale back to Tottenham, but Levy insisted on the Wales international joining his squad.

Bale has five Premier League goals and two assists this season, but he has only played in 14 Premier League games, starting only six of them under Mourinho.

Spurs' first game without the Portuguese manager will be against Southampton on Wednesday, ahead of the EFL Cup final against Manchester City on Sunday.
