Man City vs Chelsea: Should we expect goals or a dull evening?

Champions-in-waiting Manchester City will face Chelsea on Saturday evening in a warm-up match for the Champions League final on May 29.

Here's what you need to know about the intriguing match at the Etihad Stadium.

Last Meeting:

FA Cup semi-final, Chelsea 1-0 Manchester City, 17 April 2021

When the two sides last met in the league, City took all three points, but the Blues exacted revenge just a few weeks ago, securing their place in the FA Cup final.

Ben Chilwell had the best chance of the half in a drab first-half at Wembley, but the England full-back sliced his attempt wide at the back post, while Ziyech's early shot was ruled out for offside.

However, the Moroccan playmaker didn't have to wait long to get his name on the scoresheet, turning home a Timo Werner pull back ten minutes into the second half to give his side the lead.

The Blues held on for victory despite City's limited chances on target, putting an end to their opponents' hopes of completing an unparalleled quadruple.

Predicted Lineups:

Man City: Ederson; Walker, Laporte, Dias, Cancelo; Rodri, Gundogan, De Bruyne; Silva, Foden, Mahrez.

Chelsea: Mendy; Azpilicueta, Silva, Rudiger; James, Jorginho, Kante, Chilwell; Mount, Havertz, Werner.

Our Prediction:

Pep Guardiola's side will host Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium in a bid to assess each other ahead of the Champions League final at the end of the month. Both teams won European games this week, sailing to 2-0 victories over Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, respectively.

City will win their fifth Premier League title, and third under current manager Pep Guardiola, if they win.

With just four games remaining in the Premier League season, the Citizens just need three more points to clinch the championship, and they will be eager to do so and make an impact on their Champions League opponents.

These two Premier League heavyweights clashed in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley Stadium just a few weeks ago. Tuchel's side, somewhat unexpectedly, denied Guardiola's side the chance to complete the quadruple this season, with Hakim Ziyech's second-half goal securing the Blues a spot in the final.

Tuchel has done an excellent job since taking over at Chelsea in January, as shown by the game at Wembley. The Blues will be aiming for a top-four finish, but Leicester City's recent struggles have the German manager targeting a third-place finish, which is somewhat surprising given the club's position when he took over.

Over 2.5 goals have been scored in each of the last four Premier League meetings between these two teams. And in three of those four games, both teams have scored, with the exception of City's spectacular 6-0 win.
